If you are thinking about installing a pool heating system there are a few tips that you can use to get the best for your specific needs.
Even though we live in South Florida and we can enjoy warm weather almost all year long, during the winter the pool temperature can go bellow 70 degrees, which is the comfort zone for the body. In those months you can use one of three types of systems to heat the water.
You need to consider whether you want to get a solar, electric or gas heater for your pool.
A solar heater is recommended for a pool that does not need heating over 80 degrees. One advantage that this system has over the other two is that there is no operating cost, as far as I know energy coming from the sun is still free!
Electric heater systems are called heat pumps, they are very effective and can bring the pool temperature between 80 and 90 degrees. Operating cost change per state as the price of electricity varies widely from one to the other. They are more convenient if you take into consideration that not every house has a gas line.
A gas heater is best when you want to heat the pool quickly, in that sense they are more effective than electric and solar heaters. They use natural or propane gas. The cost of installing a gas unit is less than installing an electric one, but the operating cost can be significantly higher because of the great amount of gas needed to operate.
